Rick Santorum: If God Gave It To Us, We Should Use It.

(DISCLAIMER: I am not a person who does any sort of recreational drug. I never have, nor will I ever do it; however, like most rational people I find our drug laws to be borderline insane and believe the jihad against marijuana is extremely misguided.)

Rick Santorum said a really interesting thing when discussing that “hoax” of global warming the other day. See, Santorum does not believe that we have to take care of the earth. Responding to the argument rational people make to religious people on the dangers of global warming, Santorum said this:

We were put on this Earth as creatures of God to have dominion over the Earth, to use it wisely and steward it wisely, but for our benefit not for the Earth’s benefit…We are the intelligent beings that know how to manage things and through the course of science and discovery if we can be better stewards of this environment, then we should not let the vagaries of nature destroy what we have helped create.

In other words, all this coal and oil that God put here for us is for our benefit and NOT the earth’s. In that case, Mr. Santorum, are you also saying that the marijuana plants growing out of the ground are for our benefit? If you are speaking for God and you are saying that God gave us dominion and did not intend for us to take care of Earth for its own sake, then all of this natural stuff like weed must be in His plans, too, right?

And all of the other drugs that people abuse, those are byproducts of naturally occurring elements in nature. It sounds to me like Santorum is saying that we have a right to benefit whatever comes out of the ground, so why not drugs, too?

Obviously, I’m being silly and really stretching things to make a point, but such exaggeration is needed to counter unbridled stupidity. It shows the mental gymnastics conservatives will use to deny any sort of problems with the Earth’s climate, and this now includes denying that God would want us to stop destroying our atmosphere because…umm.

I for one never bought the hoax. I for one understand just from science that there are one hundred factors that influence the climate. To suggest that one minor factor of which man’s contribution is a minor factor in the minor factor is the determining ingredient in the sauce that affects the entire global warming and cooling is just absurd on its face.

Rick Santorum is a scientist who understands there are one hundred factors that influence the climate. Not among them: the world constantly spewing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

And yeah! It’s just absurd on its face! After all, scientist Rick Santorum, who has a non-existent degree in science, doesn’t offer any evidence. He just says it, and it’s so.

So see, when confronted with a stupid person who believes you can only have sex for procreation and who also believes that we don’t have to take care of the environment because God said it’s OK and he gave us all this stuff, offer that person a joint. Then tell ’em that God wants us to do it.

Idiots.
